I have an E-PL5 so it only has an LCD. Can you adjust the brightness on the LCD and EVF independently on the em1?
 
Hi Matrix. I have an OMD-EM5 and you can on that as I have just done as you suggested. I will see if it makes any difference.

Following your suggested adjustments to my LCD and EVF they were both set at standard. Are you suggesting yours were set high or did the standard position make them look high? I also use EV boost not sure what impact that might have.
 
In my case the standard (default) settings made my LCD look bright.

On my camera I have Live View Boost. If it's the same thing as EV boost, it should not have an effect on the image. It should only brighten the live image on the screen but not the final capture.
