On this Memorial Day, please take a moment to think about those who have given all they had in service of this country. The self sacrifice of the men and women who have chosen to wear the uniform of this country over the past 236 years is immeasurable. Those who have served in any capacity deserve our respect and our thanks. The United Stated military is currently an all-volunteer force. Please thank a vet or an active service member should you see them at any time during the year. - DM Jim (U.S. Navy - currently serving)

The claim is that the levels of radiation detected are not harmful to us if we eat these fish. The other claim is that these levels may be useful for tracking migration patterns of oceanic animals. That may all be well and good, yet i would rather not have had this happen to the oceanic environment in the first place! - PLEASE SHARE -

This op-ed is interesting in that is asks a good question about actual fish stocks. The question I have is while the point is valid, the methods described are extremely destructive to the ocean environment. No mention of bycatch or how the trawls make the ocean floor into a desert...PLEASE SHARE

http://www.thedailybeast.com/newswe...n-of-life-and-the-sorrow-beneath-the-sea.html

"A World Bank report aptly titled “The Sunken Billions” highlighted the madness of overfishing when it calculated that major fish stocks of the world would produce 40 percent more if we fished them less. It sounds paradoxical—fish less to catch more—but that is the simple message."

This is an excellent article that provides very basic, common-sense answers to how we are destroying the oceans ...and how we can shift to sustainable and even increasing production from the oceans. This is a MUST read.

Nuclear Tuna and NPR's Trivialization | Common Dreams

From our wonderful friend Samantha Whitcraft:
Just don't eat the damn tuna. "Radiation from Fukushima spread far and wide. Like American hydrogen bomb testing, the Fukushima nuclear accident deposited cesium-137 over 600,000 square-miles of the Pacific, as well as the Northern Hemisphere and Europe. With a half-life of 30 years, cesium-137 is taken up in the meat of the tuna as if it were potassium, indicating that the metabolism holds on to it."
