The most for me is 3 - 4 months. Usually the winter and spring months here in Libya if I don't travel somewhere else and dive. There were also times when war broke out and couldn't get out for few weeks. One time had to go diving in middle of winter freezing water to catch fish for food because banks closed and no cash for few months. My friends and I took turns in diving and shared our catch with neighbors who were stuck in the conflict. I do not wish to go back to these days again.
