It's in 8ft of water about 100-150ft (???) offshore. I think Mike Tapper has marked the wreck with an orange/red Tide bottle. If you take a boat to it, be careful about clipping the boiler. The top of the boiler is probably 3ft. Shore access is from the Hammond Marina (the one w/ the Horseshoe Casino).

I have not been able to confirm or deny that diving this wreck from shore is legal or illegal. However, many divers from my local club have dove this wreck without any trouble.

Even though it is only in 8ft of water, it is a nice wreck to dive on. For most people, one dive is enough.

I would suggest a dive float/flag, however, as there is some traffic from jet skis and recreational boats which frequent the beach. Getting buzzed by one is not a pleasant experience.

have you seen this wreck?

Been following this thread and it sounds like it could be fun dive. I'll be out of town on the 1st, snorkeling w/my non-diver girlfriend off jupiter florida. Report back here after the dive, I'm interested in hearing about it.

Do you mean July 18th? or three weeks from now?

I have access to a 19ft boat. We usually dive this wreck after diving the other wrecks (35+ft) in the area, so I have not dove this site from shore.

However, as noted, it is quite close to shore and I don't see any reason why you couldn't surface swim to the boat. As I said previous, **I have not been able to confirm or deny that diving this wreck from shore is legal.** Does anyone know for sure?

I do recommend diving the site on a weekday as the surface traffic from boats and jet skis is pretty significant on the weekends. 8ft is not a huge buffer between a prop and you.

Hi Junbug1970, We have a Tide bottle on that wreck but have not dove it this season. We wanted to do it as a night dive. I have the exact GPS numbers if you need them. PM me if you like. I have been told that it is a fine dive with lots to see. It was a very large steel ship with boilers and props still intact.

August 1st does not work for me. The wreck runs parallel to the beach in 8ft of water. The wreck is long enough that I think you would have a pretty good chance of hitting it even if you went out blind. I forgot to mention that there is a pier section to the right that is ok to dive along as well.
