Hi people,
I got my OW certification 20 years ago, and logged about twenty dives, but then got away from it and haven't dove in about fifteen years. Not that I completely lost interest, but I just got involved in different stuff, sold my gear, and drifted (no pun intended) away from it.
So a couple of weeks ago I was at a party and the topic came up, and everyone was like "Oooh, scuba diving, I'm scared of the water, it's dangerous, eek, sharks!!!" So I started telling everyone how great it is, and it's safe, you just have to be properely trianed and follow proper safety practices, etc, and then it suddenly hit me: why am I not diving? I'm obviously still enthusiastic about it, the gear's not that expensive, I've got the time now...
So, long story short, I purchased my basic personal gear and am taking a skills refresher course next week. I'm really excited about just getting in a pool again, and am looking forward to getting my feet (and the rest of me) wet on some real dives soon.
I'm in Central Texas (Austin, precisely) and I'm interested in meeting other divers to buddy up with, taking some local trips, and gradually buliding my skills. I've got my sights set on a Flower Gardens trip at some point in the future, and I'm interested in finding suggestions for other experience/skill building trips to prepare for that.
Browsing the forum, seems to be great community, glad to be aboard.
