If you wait for the cork to dry out it will shrink so that it will just fall out. I have done this many times. If you want to preserve the cork so that it looks like the day it went in the bottle you will need a lab.
I do believe that sick glass is caused be the minerals that were in the sand that was used for making the glass or a bad manufacturing process. Mysteries of sick glass
I have one free blown that is sick (blisters and iridescent look) but I think that it gives it allot of character.
