Great report. You mentioned that you didn't have fish so you got very still. How would you have reacted if you did have fish? I'm just getting into spearfishing and I'm still a little unsure about how to react to those types of situations.

Swim AT the shark. If you swim away they will feel safe to close the distance. If you swim at them they think you must be worse than they are and they back off. If they are REALLY close, put something between you and them (camera, speargun, etc). Don't panic, keep your head. If a shark really wants to bite a diver, then you're already bit.
 
There's a 10' bull shark that hangs out off the stern of the Pete Tide II. Back in June I was the only one who missed it as he was swimming behind me.
