What caliber would that be? :m16:

Are those LED lights?

illumination wise they are worlds apart. yes they are led lights and are quite strong for their size. i would say slightly weaker than the light canon:)

only drawback is that they are only rated to 200ft.

Yea, I just saw that too (waterproof down to 60m).

I am trying to figure out which backup lights to get right now... guess I'll wait for a bit as I'm in no hurry yet.

Gosh, funny, isn't it....Considering how many times I've seen scouts flood (including my own) and yet I often find SL 4 or 6s on the ocean floor that still work.

Is that now official GUE policy or just one of the "unwritten" rules? Wasn't the UK SL4 "DIR" in the old days...?

No, UK SL4s were never DIR. DIR was to go to the trouble to find the old, no longer produced, Oceanic 3 C cells which the Scouts were later based upon. Some people used them for more basic dives but the switch was always considered a failure point and it was never used for big dives. Plus, it is too bulky to be comfortable.

The frogman's depth rating, use of AA batteries and general shape really disqualifies it as well.

Halcyon's products were developed because everyone got tired of chasing down the last box of Farrallon spring straps in the Oceanic warehouse, modifying the wrong stuff to work, or building one off DIR parts for themselves. Now, there are a lot of companies out there advertising DIR products. Some are actually DIR, some aren't. The advantage of Halcyon is that the few things that aren't DIR are obvious (and I think most of those have disappeared from the catalog).

dir or not those frogman lights are quality? Looks like kids toy crap to me, too smooth and polished... but then again the same can be said for Atomic regulators.

and about the sl4 being too big to be comfy? I have big ol' meat hooks and to be honest I like my SL4 better than my scout...
