Hammerhead Mini, above and underwater?

I havn't been able to find a clear answer, but does the Hammerhead Mini signaling device work both above and below the surface? And if so, how effective.

My husband and I use the underwater, to signal each other. We dive with hoods, you can't hear a tank banger. We dive with dive alerts for above water emergency signaling.

Ther hammerhead is great underwater. Above spring for the dive alert. Hammerhead range is limited on the surface especially if there is some chop. The higher frequency of the dive alert makes it more directional but it carries alot farther. Both good things if you are trying to get the boats attention. And do what it says. If not wearing a hood , cover your ears or duck under when you let it go.

The hammerhead isn't really all that loud above water. For above water I recommend the Dive Alert by Ideations.

A DM in Cozumel now has my hammerhead as an underwater signalling device.
