In looking at dive computers, I see that both Aeris and Oceanic offer upgrade programs that allow you to upgrade a console from another manufacturer to one of their units at a discout price. It also says this upgrade can be done at a LDS if they are willing to do so.

Links:
Oceanic: http://www.oceanicworldwide.com/2004/services_upgrades.html
Aeris: http://www.diveaeris.com/s-upgrade1.cfm

The programs would allow me to trade in my Dacor Darwin and receive a Oceanic ProPlus 2 for $585 or an Aeris Elite for $675. This gives me about a significant credit off of LDS prices on these units, but the LeisurePro price is only about $10 more than the upgrade price so I may be alble to find a better LDS deal.

Anyone have any experience with these programs?

hi pw1981,

I have used the Oceanic Upgrade program twice.
Most recently, I "upgraded" a "dead" datamax (+$300) for a VersaPro Wrist model.
It works as advertised, and I did go through my LDS, who is an Oceanic dealer. I told him what I wanted to do, he said "fine", took the old computer, and the cash, and 5 weeks later, I had the new computer.(the LDS had none in stock) The dealer apologized for the delay, saying that Oceanic was "backed up".
The delay was not a problem, because I didn't need the comp. right away.
Take care,

Mike

Wow, I bought an Oceanic DataMax Pro Plus 2 with quick disconnect and compass from Leisure-Pro for $565 and didn't have to trade in a thing.

Those prices aren't all that great, especially if you have to give up your current computer. If you go the LDS route, you could probably find a store and negotiate down to the same price (or better) without handing in what could be a nice backup. As far as online - I bought an Aeris from Larry at scubatoys.com and he gave me a price that was better than Leisurepro while still being an authorized dealer.

I too used the trade in program and was very happy with it, expeically since my 15 year old console was completely dead.

Yea, when we sell the Aeris Elite for $699 with full warranty - I'd not bother trade in anything just to save 10 or 20 bucks... probably better to keep it as a backup - or sell it to someone who needs it.
