IMO the best way to find a good instructor is by referral. Otherwise it can be pretty much of a duck shoot. Mainly because at the beginning, you are a beginner 
. I had no idea where to start, what to ask, and wound up going through a c-card mill.
So, I would agree with the advice to post asking for someone in your area who was pleased with their instructor. Ask around!
