Hey, just thought I'd sey hello to everyone on here. Name's Nate.

Hi Nate!

Welcome. I read your profile to figure out your screen name and was offended by the term "former Marine." As you know, there's no such thing. Once a Marine, always a Marine. Even though you're in the National Guard now. BTW, how'd that happen? Why wouldn't you stay in the Marine reserves? Just curious.

Howdy!

Benvenuto a bordo from the middle of Mediterranean sea. :azvatar:

Scott, there are many former marines. There is only one "Ex-Marine" however(Lee Harvey Oswald.) Former Marine is the term used to describe anyone who got out of the corps. Ask any marine buddys you might have. As far as why didn't I go Marine reserve, the answer is that they are even more underfunded than the Active Duty Marine Corps, and they still try to be hard asses like they're active duty(at least from the few I've met.) The guard is more laid back(almost disgustingly so at times, but thats just the jarhead in me,) has better funding(at least up in Oregon,) and plus I automatically became a state resident by joining the guard up here, because they are funded by the state, thus dramatically reducing my college tuition costs.

Besides, you'd be amazed how many former marines are in the guard. It's like coming home(wipes tear from corner of his eye.)

Nate

Of course you are correct, I got confused. The term was ex-marine. Don't know how that happened considering I am a Former Marine 1986-1990 (7212-Stinger Missile Gunner). I was kidding about being offended.

Hope you didn't interpret my curiosity incorrectly. Take care.

Welcome to the board. Thanks for serving.

No problem, Scott. I was a 0612, field wireman. AKA Comm pogue. Oh and Greer, no prob.... I like to think of it as a four year all expenses paid vacation to different countries, with the small downside of people shootin at ya. But aside from that it's a blast!
