Morbid fascination, "jollies" and/or contempt for others' tragedies is called schadenfreude. There are many here and across other boards who practice it subtly and obviously as well (including a few moderators. . .:shakehead:).
 
Go and read some of them and you'll have your answer.:D

We may be concerned with dying and want to avoid it as much as possible but most of the near misses don't seem near at all.
