International travel: Carry-on vs. Check-in baggage

The previous post by Kwinter sums it up. I always pack camera gear and regulators/computers for carry-on. I learned the hard way and had regulators and gauges stolen transiting through Miami. It is true that the regs are more weighty but, not excessively. Regs. cameras and swimware/beach clothing fit easily into a carry-on and weigh less than or equal to a bag of clothing. In over 25 years of dive travel, I have only encountered two (2) security agents that had no experience with viewing diving equipment on the security scan. YMMV
