Is there a need for Divemaster to stamp Dive log?

If you ever have to recover a C-card that is 'lost in the system' having signed off dives by the instructors will be about the only way to document anything. It isn't next month you worry about, it's 20 years down the road. If you think an agency can't lose your records, think again. How many times has your hard drive crashed over the last 20 years?

DM signatures are about as useful as buddy signatures. They should be in the logbook but I don't think they add any value. There are instructors for courses you are taking and there are dive buddies. Nothing else much matters.

More important is the history. I made some terrific dives with some very interesting people in the early years. Every once in a while I look back through my logbooks and photo albums. I was truly blessed...
