Latest News on Short Road Closures this week

If you are staying at one of the resorts South of Puerta Maya, please note these road closures for Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (Sept 15 - 18, 2016)

The road between Fonatur marina and Chankanaab (for Sprint distance races) and Punta Sur (for Standard/Olympic distance races) area will be closed completely the following days and hours, so if you need to get to the airport or to town (or in reverse) please plan accordingly.

I hope this info will help ease some anxiety and help with your planning if needing to get to/from town to the southern part of the island. If anything changes, I will post updates.

Thursday: 6:30am - 11:00am (one lane will be open)
Thursday: 3:00pm - 5:30pm (closed completely)
Friday: 7:00am - 10:00am - closed completely
Friday: 3:00 - 6:15pm (closed completely)
Saturday: 9:00am - 11:00am (one lane NIGHT be open)
Saturday: 3:00pm - 6:00pm (closed completely)
Sunday: 6:30 - 11:00am (one lane open)
Sunday: 2:45pm - 5:30 pm (completely closed)

Boat access in and out of the marina will now ONLY be restricted during these hours:
Friday: 11:00 - 12:00am
Saturday: 3:00pm - 4:00pm
Sunday: 2:45pm - 3:30pm

Just a note to say that the schedules posted don't seem to correlate with the actual times of the road closures, so beware. Southbound Melgar was closed on Wednesday and Thursday and there was a parade on Friday, all prior to 9AM. The southbound lane of the Carretera Costera Sur was closed just past noon on Friday, a little ways past Puerta Maya, causing a hellacious back-up of traffic that needed to inch its way south to the turnaround point at the closure before doubling back. No police was notifying southbound traffic of this closure prior to the fact.
