due to my business, I am fortunate enough to accumulate roughly 30,000 membership reward points per month with AMerican Express. Currently have 420,00 points. These can be transferred to most airlines at a 1:1 rate so in essence I have this many frequent flyer miles. Unfortunately, American Airlines does not accept them. Well, I was/am planning a trip to Fiji and to get around the problem with American Airlines (my only option from where I live) I transferred 90,000 (cost of first class frequent flyer ticket) points to my Marriott Awards account. American Airlines will accept points from Marriott. What no one told me, however, was that points from a hotel account to an airline frequent flyer account is not 1:1 but is 3:1. So only have 30,000 points in my frequent flyer account. I have the points to do it anyway but I sure do not want to blow 270,000 points to do this trip (that is 9 tickets to Mexico). So if using frequent flyer miles to do trips be careful.
