Then again... If I could be sure that my drysuit would really be dry I might take my phone in with me too. Which brings me to my first hard lesson; don't buy a used drysuit.

and...

Don't leave your gear on a picnic table that will be overrun with divers that you don't know. and then proceed to forget about it because it's intermingled with the rest of the gear there. Anyone have a spare mask & gloves?

How about-
Make sure your weight pouches are in your BC before doing your giant stride.

Make sure your equipment is secure or put in your bag after the dive. (I watched as my son's mask got kicked overboard and lost.)

Always bring a spare mask!
 
Always remember to turn the camera on before you insert it into the housing and jump into the ocean. Because, inevetibly, that is when the whale shark will make its only appearance of the trip.
