Another thing to bear in mind: many diving destinations are in areas where water is in short supply. If you are not going to be able to wash down dive gear thoroughly, that is a lot easier to swallow when it is rented.

A mask is a must for me as I have script lenses. If it's a diving holiday then I take everything. Most of it goes in my carryon, extra junk, like clothes, gets checked.
