That's precisely my point. Blue's only argument appears to be that people break their LC bulbs because of lack of shock resistance...

Warren, do you think we'd see fewer Light Cannon broken bulbs if people spent as much on the LC as you did on your Terkel?

You got that right..... When you drop some pretty big coin on a dive light, you treat it with care. The fact that the light canon housing looks just like a cheaper incandescent light doesn't help much I'm sure.

Just about all of the HID bulbs out there come from WelchAllyn, and ditto for the ballasts. Does anybody know if the Light Cannon uses the WelchAllyn ballast? If they went to a cheaper ballast, that could explain some of the issues.

The bulb housing could also provide an explanation for why Light Cannon bulbs appear to fail more often than canister bulbs. The mechanical characteristics of the housing may not be the issue - the problem could be how the light is carried! A canister light head is strapped to a diver's hand, which is inherently going to give it some shock absorption. On the other hand, most Light Cannons dangle from a wrist or a BCD, so they tend to swing around more and hence get banged around.

Bottom line....

If it does not work/hold up as a dive light. Get it off the shelf.
