Hello everyone

You have and excellent site and it gives me great pleasure to be amongst so much wisdom. I found your site by looking for snorkels to buy but didn't find what I was looking for.

I live around fresh water lakes and would like to snorkel or go under water at 8 to 10 feet using a long snorkel. After doing a search and not finding one that would have a long tube to breathe through lead me to believe that they are not made. Can anyone tell me where to buy one or tell me that I am crazy.

Hi, welcome to SB. I will not pretend to be an expert. But, you will find lots of information on this board. I think most people would free dive to eight feet and clear the snorkel when they resurface. But, good luck on your search.

Welcome!! Any question you have, you can probably find a post about it in the archives, or just ask away and someone will steer you to an answer.

You will find that you are unable to breath through a tube if you are 8 feet deep. The water around you exerts a pressure on your lungs that you probably will not be strong enough to counteract, and so that is why there aren't any made. I've heard that 2-3 feet is about the limit for that type of breathing.

Snorkelers use a much shorter tube, and then hold their breath to go deeper.

Welcome aboard - Ditto what Radinator said - so you might want to consider taking up Scuba  But be careful...it's a very addictive sport :D

Aloha, Tim
