Question Oceanic Datamask Battery Cover "Valve"

I own an Oceanic Datamask that I have been regularly using since 2007 and after I returned the prototype unit for a new one I have never had any problems. I just returned back from Little Cayman Island and was having an issue with the battery compartment leaking. Replaced O rings X2 and then realized the small red rubber "valve" was missing on the battery cover (small hole below plus/minus symbol). Anyone have any insights what this is and if someone makes a replacement for it (I know, Oceanic stopped servicing these years ago).

The button is a reset button. It disconnects the battery internally (temporarily)when depressed, without removing the battery cover itself

Really? I thought it was some type of valve for pressure? Do you have a photo of it?
