I'm a Fish!
Hi, I have been trying to get info from so-called 5 stars IDC centers but none have been able to provide any answers, so I'm looking to the forum for help.

Does anyone knows the cost and duration for an instructor crossover program from NAUI to PADI? I am under the impression that the IDC program is not applicable and I read somewhere about an ICC (Instructor Crossover Course) that no one seems to know about. Can anyone shed some light please? Thank you!

The PADI instructor course consists of AI, OWSI (together, IDC), followed then by IE.

Crossovers skip the AI and go straight to the OWSI program... 5 days minimum (3 if you do online study first). The IE is usually 2 days.

Costs are obv up to the individual CD and divecenter, but budget around $1300 for the OWSI+materials (assuming you don't have them), and $485 for the IE. Plus additional costs for EFRI, registration, etc.
All in, $2000 plus change.

YMMV.

Thank you very much! Some real answers at last! I am assuming that AI = Asst Instructor?

Correct. If I recall correctly, the order of ascension for NAUI is

Rescue
Teaching Assistant
Assistant Instructor
Divemaster
Instructor

PADI doesn't have the TA certification and reverses the AI/DM order, so the ascension is

Rescue
Divemaster
Assistiant Instructor
Instructor (Open Water Scuba Instructor)

There are also "promotions" beyond OWSI, which you probably don't care about right now.

Great, thank you so much!

Hi, new question:

I read that there is a new revised IDC. How different is it with the old IDC?

It's alot different, but if you haven't done the old one you might not notice.
We just had an instructor do the crossover and his biggest problem was being unfamiliar with Padi systems and classes. If you can start watching some Padi classes to get the order and scope down.

I agree with Cap335. And beside watching some PADI courses I strongly recommend to make familiar with the PADI Instructor Manual before entering the PADI Instructor Course. Also, because the PADI Instructor training means mostly to make the candidates familiar with the PADI system, for my opinion it is not a good idea to skip the Assistant Instructor part and to enter directly the OWSI program. I recommend doing the complete IDC program, because it offers some more occasions to make familiar with the PADI system.
