My 13yo son is a Jr OW diver with about 40 dives. He is certified by SDI to 60', but when diving at PADI centers, they limit him to 40', as per the PADI protocol.

Do PADI centers honor deep diver certs for Jr OW? eg SDI Deep Diver Course - International Training - SDI | TDI | ERDI | PFI

I know people have strong opinions about the proper depth limits for JrOW, and if you would like to discuss that, please start a separate topic

In the end, it is a decision by the dive center, not PADI.
PADI allows 70 feet during training for continuing education (ages 12-14).
PADI's Deep Diver course (4 dives) has a minimum age prereq of 15.
SDI's Deep Diver course (your link above) has a minimum age prereq of 18, but 10 with parental consent.
Suggestion: Have your 13-year old son do the Junior AOW course.

thanks for the info

PADI centers would not (even with a letter from SDI) honor his TDI certification to 18m/ 60'

the question is will they even honor the 21m limit of an AOW certification?

A PADI center will honor a PADI certification, I'm confident.
Why would you think otherwise?

because there is supposed to be reciprocity between the agencies, but they would not for his TDI cert

SDI open water is ISO24801-2 certified, so they have to accept it.

they allowed him to dive, but they wouldn't let him dive to his certifcation of 18m. only to 12m
then they are morons and you need to take your money to a dive center that isn't run by morons.

There is plenty of idiocy in the industry. Peter Guy couldn't get nitrox when presenting his trimix card. So he asked for trimix but without helium. It didn't work.

this happened at multiple dive centers, including Islamorada and in Roatan

the dive center in roatan also wouldn't let him go on a night dive when he was 11, also citing that the PADI minimum age for hte Night Diver specialty is 12

They should have read all the fine print. PADI only sets rules for course dives, not fun dives.

As long as your son dives within the limits of his training, it's okay.

Oh wait....is there any chance of litigation resulting in lawsuits with enormous claims? Then yes, I would refuse too.
