We live in the Phoenix area and have visited San Carlos only once. We initially signed up with our LDS for trips to San Carlos two months in a row in May and June of 2008. We returned a day early cancelled the second trip because we experienced a number of unpleasant conditions. The hotel was uncomfortable and poorly maintained with management that was totally indifferent to the guests needs. The dive boat could have reasonably accommodated 8 or maybe 10 divers but had 22 on board trampling all over one another. Other than one octopus and a couple of small eels, the dive sites were pretty sterile and disappointing. And, to top it all off, the dining venues were just pretty much disgusting and we both came down with an intestinal bug that lasted several days. Add to that the nearly 10 hour drive through remote areas of Mexico and it just isn't an experience we want to repeat any time soon.I live in Guaymas, Mexico and and I am just wondering about your thoughts for 2010. The economic "crisis" has effected the tourist industry for sure. How optimistic should we, in the diving industry, be for 2010. Of course we all would like to spend thousands of dollars for new gear and exotic trips, but the reality is we would have to pay for it all. Please leave a constructive comment on what would have to change (or not) that would allow you to be active in the diving sport. I am retired myself and do some instruction on the side, but many hotels, restaurants and dive shops must wonder what 2010 will bring.
