I use personal adjustment feature on my D9 for my weekend dives when I travel to my dive destination over a 6-8 hour bus ride. But I did not realize any difference until now probably because I usually keep my saturday dives shallower. I did not use the altitude adjustment yet, though. As String put it, listening to one's own body and considering the diving conditions should be the way to go, IMHO.
 
It depends on the conditions.

For ocean diving (any ocean diving) I leave all the settings at 0
For diving at altitude, I set it for the altitude, which where I live is A1
If the water is particularly cold, I'll set to P1 as well (usually winter dives)
