Not to put a damper on anybody's plans, but when I went to register, they said that had at least 30 more divers registered than boats, so, not sure how that is going to work out.

Okay, I'll check into that. In the meantime, if you're a boat owner please consider participating and perhaps accommodating a couple of the volunteer divers that've already signed up. Remember, boat owners receive a fifty dollar gift certificate for participating!

Thanks,
Dave

As of yesterday Macs Scuba still has a few spots open on the charters they are organizing. However, we'd like to wrap up the registration by this Thursday so we know how many t shirts, swag bags, lunches, etc to prepare. We gathered a number of really cool door prizes from our local merchants and each volunteer will receive one raffle ticket, though you can purchase more at the event to increase your chances of winning.

That's good info. Thanks for checking, they must have given me some wrong info or gotten more boats to participate :)

Just a quick note to thank the growing list of local merchants that have donated items to the goodie bags we will be distributing to the volunteer divers and the door prizes that will given away at the raffle drawing. I've talked to many of these sponsors personally and this is their way of thanking YOU for helping out. Please check out our website to see who's involved:

We're also currently looking for donations of two violins (old or new) and boxing gloves for Reef Monitoring's blind auction at the Lokey Mercedes's celebrity "Dolphin Tale" event that'll be held next week.

Thanks,
Dave

Thanks for posting and to all the sponsors for supporting this event.
A word of caution to all those participating... Be sure to have two cutting instruments, and one of them should be trauma shears, capable of cutting 200# steel leaders.
Be careful out there, entanglements can happen easier than you think.

Yes, I know it sounds weird. Reef Monitoring, Inc. is participating in a blind auction at the "Dolphin Tale" celebrity fund raiser hosted by LoKey-Mercedes next week. We are looking for donations of a couple of new (or old) violins that Robby Steinhardt from the band Kansas can autograph and some boxing gloves that Angeleo Dundee and Antonio Tarver can sign as well. Still waiting to hear from Joe Perry...

Proceeds of these items will be split by Reef Monitoring and the Clearwater Marine Aquarium to fund their current and ongoing conservation and education activities.

Reef Monitoring Inc. is dedicated to provide educational programs, care for and improve Florida's valuable reef and estuarine ecosystems, to advance sustainable communities, to help build institutional ability, and to gain broad-based public support for ongoing marine conservation, habitat enhancement, research and education programs.

Thanks,
Dave

Wow, you guys are awesome...we closed the registration on Saturday and have 163 divers signed up for Saturday's clean up!

Dave

The clean up of Clearwater Reef organized by Reef Monitoring, Inc. will occur tomorrow (24-Sept) from 8 am to noon at the brand spanking new Clearwater Harbor Marina. A beach cleanup will also be conducted simultaneously by the Science Adventures Club of St. Petersburg College. The one-hundred and sixty-five participating divers will begin streaming back onshore for the weigh in around 11 am, so come by and see how much derelic crab trap rope they recover.

Parking is free and directions to the event are here:

We're also selling raffle tickets for a number of prizes ranging from a free lunch buffet at India Grill (on Central Ave in St. Pete) all the way up to a Deep Outdoors Buoyancy Compensator donated by Tackle Shack (a $400 value). All proceeds benefit Reef Monitoring's mission of conservation, education, and research.

Tickets will also be available for a separate drawing for a free NITROX certification class, donated by the Florida Freeshafters Spearfishing Club and Scuba West Dive Shop in Hudson (a $199 value). More details are here:

After the clean up we're all heading over to Drew St. in Clearwater for the *After Party* hosted by Mac's Dive Shop. They're having a tent sale, yet another raffle drawing, hors d'oeuvres, drinks (including beer), and live music. More details are here:

Mac's Sports Specials:  The best in SCUBA and Ski in Clearwater, Tampa, and Dunedin (FL) Florida

See you there,
