The S-5 is featured on Deep sea detectives tonight on the history channel. It's sinking and the rescue of the crew is a very interesting story that was covered in detail in the book "Under Pressure". It's a great rescue and survival story and I am looking forward to seeing some video of the wreck itself.
The wreck initially sank in 185 ft of water but immediately after the rescue of the crew, the S-5 was towed along the bottom closer inshore but the tow cable parted. Subsequent salvage efforts were not successful as the hull could never be made water tight and refloated. It was theorized that a battery explosion in the closed forward compartment opened seams in the riveted pressure hull. If I remember correctly the wreck is now in about 130 ft of water.
