I'm looking at taking a trip to either Bali or Sabah next year (spring break or summer time). I wonder if anyone has any pointers for which is better for small families that are looking to take in land based attractions as well as days diving.

Simply put, the key mix of land based attractions and diving will have to involve further air travel in Sabah, whereas in Bali, just hire a car with a driver.

It's been over 10 years since I last visited Sabah, so things may have changed.

How young is your family? Bali is much easier to get around. Sabah has a lot more off the beaten trail, and more interesting dive options - Layang Layang is one of my favourites, and there is Sipidan of course, though it has been a while since I have been there. Bali has something for everyone. I would leave Sabah until the kids are about 10 and diving as well 🙂
