Definitely seize his gear on top of the fines. Furthermore, DFG should issue a black list of poachers to boat captains to be wary of. I wouldn't go so far as to say ban them from all charters, but let the captains decide if they are allowed on their boats.

Hard to determine when this occurred, so therefore hard to figure out who the Captain was...by the time cases make it to court, it could be months. But, Thank You Captain, whomever you are.

Phil, my guess is along your thoughts, this guys was with that group you're thinking of....

The punishment is not nearly enough to send any message to these idiots. Take their gear and cut a finger (or toe, when fingers are gone) for each illegal item taken.
 
Per the article, the poaching was on October 29, 2011. Does that help ID our Capt. Hero?
