I attended the swap yesterday and did make a couple of purchases.
Just couple of observations. I realize it was a “swap” and not a “show” but some of the retailers need a lesson on marketing. Following are a couple of things I noted.
I saw more merchandise lying on the floor than on tables.
If your going to sell something insure all the pieces are included. Don’t expect me to lay down my cash and not take my full purchase home. Telling me I’ll send you the rest by courier or leave it with me and I’ll have it back to you for next week doesn’t cut it.
If I’m looking at an article with a tag of $100.00 don’t try to up sell me on the item at $550.00 there’s a reason why I’m looking at the inexpensive one. Ask me why. I’ll tell you.
Have the name and location of your shop on display.
Don’t sit and eat in front of potential customers. It sends a very clear message that your needs are more important than your customer’s.
Make sure you have enough staff to work your booth. (Remember staff will need to leave the area to eat)
Maybe the whole swap needs to be moved to a bigger venue.
Just some thoughts.
There now I feel better.
