My wife and I did over 20 dives off the beach before we found a whole meg. Tons of small teeth but no megs.
Now we swim out an extra 100 to 150 yards and find them nearly every dive.
A charter would be the way to get a jump start, and see what "good" bottom looks like.
We went out with Florida West today and found half a dozen megs, some whale teeth, and my wife found a large piece of mammoth molar.
Florida West is the only charter I've used but I've always had good luck and good service.
