Wasn't there a similar story/video posted awhile back about a photog who was pulled down, while snorkling, by a whale?

I'm no biologist/annimal behav. expert but I think that if there was any 'intent' by these animals to harm, she would be missing a leg and we would have a few drownings.

My bet is we are seeing a 'playing' behaviour.

I also agree with you. We are either seeing "subtle" warnings, or playful behaviour. Which is which.... I dunno, but I wouldn't wanna be on the receiving end! People just tend to forget that these are still wild animals... in a park or not.

From a CNN.com article: Killer whale attacks Sea World trainer
CNN:
Scarpuzzi said there have been no previous serious incidents with Kasatka.

"She has not done this particular unwanted behavior to this extent," Scarpuzzi said.

"She has displayed unwanted behavior to some extent. ... There are times like this. They are killer whales. She did choose to demonstrate her feelings in a way that was unfortunate."

I think all sea world type parks should be shut down. Zoos too. Nothing more depressing than going to a zoo and seeing the big cats pacing back and fourth. Even worse is the Gorillas. They always look depressed.

Not trying to start an arguement here... but without zoos and places like Sea World, many people would not understand hardly anything about most wild animals. I think, now-days, in civilized parts of this world, most zoos and sea life places focus on conservation and education. Yeah, there's always some "shows" to see or whatever, but the end result is that they are trying to bring attention to the severity of how fragile our "wild world" really is, and what people can do to help preserve our wildlife/marine life.

My kids simply love to go to the zoos and Sea World, Animal Kingdom, etc... and not for the shows... but to learn about the amazing animals and how to help them.

If someone named me 'Shamu', i would drag the dumbarse underwater too:eyebrow:

Do you have pets?

Do you have pets?

I do, 2 cats and a dog. The cats come and go as they please and the dog is treated just like family. He goes everywhere with us including to work with my wife. Good life for a dog and cats.

Yes, I remember that incident. That was in the wild though.

I thought that the trainers in Seaworld go to know the Whales a bit more. I would think they would get to a point where they know the whales personality enough to know when he is not playing anymore.
