I've been on 3 'shark dives'.
One was a controlled shark feeding at Unexso. You can't inter- act at all. You have to sit back at 45 feet and watch as the feeder does her stuff. Not bad, but not as much fun as the other two I did. This dive had reef sharks, nurses, and lemons.
The last two were in Belize.
We brought food down, tied it to a wreck, and let the sharks eat. When their bellies were full, we grabbed them, turned them on their full bellies and petted them like puppy dogs.
They loved it and never tried to attack us. There were only 3 of us on this last dive, which gave us a lot of time to play with the sharks.

Anyone here ever had a nasty encounter with a shark? I don't mean a horror story of Jaws proportions just encounters that might have sent a chill down your spine.

Everyone I've spoken to who has nothing to do with diving always asks - "Aren't you scared of the shark aspect?"
Sharks are always the first thing that people think of when the sea/diving is mentioned and I know that a lot of people will say that sharks are as scared of us as we are of them but sometimes it's of little comfort.

I always hear that especially when i was captain of our volunteer dive rescue unit and we would got to schools to educate children on what we did and the dangers of the local ponds. We would show them our gear which included several knives. We would ask the kids what the knives were for and they always reply for sharks!! And i would always say we carry knives so if sharks appear you can stab your buddy and get away. the kids always get a kick out of it.
