I have used Sherwood Regs (Blizzard and Brut) and BCs (Avid) for a few years. Great reliable, durable gear.

Cheers.
Yep To the Blizzard,Its a good unit!works great in coooooooooooooooold Water BRRRRR!

We've got two Sherwoods -- and old (1985) Brut, and a new Magnum. The old Brut, by the way, still works fine, with annual services; though it did spend almost 15 years in a box in the attic.

I'm curious, though... Everyone says Sherwoods are "bombproof" and dependable. I'm very glad to hear it, but I don't dive these regs often enough to notice problems or no problems... but exactly how are they "bombproof"... compared with other regs?

I know a number of people who use the Blizzard and I have seen a photo where my instructor was using his and the entire 1st stage ended up covered in ice and the reg still worked just fine. And I mean the 1st stage was encased in a big lump of ice due to the cold conditions he was using it in. He did not even know it until he got out of the water and it was pointed out to him.

Sherwood is a huge company, much bigger than Scubapro (JWA) and USD combined. They have been in the life support business for more than 75 years. Don’t believe me? If you have a gas grill look at the valve on the tank, it will say Sherwood on the handle regardless of the brand of grill. If you have a relative on oxygen the valve and regulator is a Sherwood. If you have a Fire Dept. their life support equipment is Harsco/Sherwood; Harsco is the parent company to Sherwood. Sherwood is the worldwide leader of valves and regulators and makes many other brands OEM’s; they are part of Harsco’s gas technologies division. The company pulls in over 2 billion dollars a year with an annual growth of 280 million dollars.

Their BC’s are made buy outside vendors like most scuba companies. If you look at Scubapro's masks you will fine the same masks in the Sherwood line and so on. This is not new, some scuba vendors are OEM suppliers for others, and some vendors are just OEM suppliers, but as far as regulators go; they tool their own brass make all their own valves and tanks, and are OEM vendors themselves.

This post is just to put in perspective how big Sherwood really is…I believe a lot of people think their just another scuba company.

Here are a few links to make you believe that Sherwood is bigger;

As far as computers go Palegic/Oceanic makes lots of OEM's for other companies. Oceanic bought Palegic awhile ago...

Sherwood has been around a long time. They make their own regulators and valves. Their regs are almost bullet proof and will last for years and years and give good performance throughout the recreational sportdiving depths. Most of their regs offer moisture retention and great resistance to freeze up. JMO

I really like my Sherwood Avid BC; 1000 denier nylon, 2 dump valves, 6 stainless steel D rings, 2 zippered pockets, a small flap pouch, sternum strap and padded back panel. As far as I'm concerned, the thing is "bombproof". It is one of my favorite gear items.
