Add two more for my husband and I. We are new to diving and mainly dive the beach in Laguna.

... new divers who stick mostly to the beach. I'm impressed! After the first attempt when I got my ass completely kicked by the California surf, I've only managed a real beach dive once in the last two years! (Not counting Casino Point, of course)

Sounds like I could take a few lessons from you people. :)

You'd be surprised how many of us are around who LIKE beach diving.

It's not hard to get your ass kicked in the surf zone, but, you'll learn when and where to make your entries as well as timing the lulls between the sets.

And, if you get your hiney thumped by the surf on your exit, there's no dishonor in crawling out. I've crawled out a few times myself in the past. Hell, I've even crawled IN a few times in the past. *chuckle*

If you can beach dive So. Cal, you can dive almost anywhere!

I really enjoy the beach diving.... once I'm past the surf. But it is cheap and required less planning. My husband just got laid off so we are holding off on taking a boat to Catalina until he is employeed again. Until then we are very happy just diving the beaches.

On our first anniversary we dove off of cleo street, which is basically where we got married. We really ate it going in. We almost didn't do the dive. But we persisted and had a great dive. It was probably my favorite dive and worth the pummeling.

The surf zone, its kind of like climbing a large rock face. If you have the skills and strength it can be a tantalizing challenge, but if your not really up to speed on either point it can be anything from scarry to what would seem like a disaster. I watched a class enter at Veterans Park last weekend, 8 students and an instructer. One of the last entries into the surf zone was probably a weaker student, the student was in the surf, small as it was but a lost weight belt due to a really brief buddy check and having a buddy that was at best 20 feet away in the waves and that dive day was done. A trio of exiting divers saw the delima and one got with the student to calm him/her and the other two found the missing weight belt and everyone exited the water. The student was exhausted, not physically but emotionall toast would be accurate. There was really no reason for the occurance other than lack of confidence, experiance or perhaps timely help. The surf can add just enough adversity to stop some before they get to start. The benefits are lets see, strenuous entry, long surface swims are common, poor vis due to high turbidity in the surf line, some have really long hikes to scaling a mountain side wearing scuba gear. Yep, I remember the wonders of beach dives clearly....LOL. I have even climbed the stairs in near full scuba at a run. I am really glad I survived the beach dive days, but to be honest being in your 20's seems to make it more appealing that being in your 50's.......trust me.

I'm in my 40's and I beach dive with two 22 year olds. (Ironically, they are both named Adam.) I'd rather do that to stay in shape than move iron in a gym, and I get to do some great dives. Once you get the technique down, all is right with the world!

I wonder who that could be? Hmmm...... YA sly sea dog, you!

...I do dive with a very sexy 23 year old, as well! :D

It's good to be da king!

Hummm

Diving with a hot 23 year old. That really sucks.

I dove with a bunch of Scuba Boarders this weekend and it was hard enough to shed the clothes and expose the bod with people who know who you are. Then add a "hot 23 year old" into the mix and maybe I'll start diving in sweats under my wetsuit. LOL

I am old and out of shape. :( Definately not a "hot 23 year old."

Gravity sucks and I am getting old. (she kicks the dirt and walks off)

But I am fun to be around. LOL R
