when they found out what the guy was suffering from all they had to do was to fly at a lower altitude the rest of the way until they landed and got proper treatment for the guy.

Anyway, the episode is: Season 3, Episode 18: Airborne

Out of curiosity, did House and the team spend the first 45 minutes of the show chasing down other theories and almost killing that patient before figuring it out? That seems to be the standard cookie cutter plot for House

For the same reason the cops never arrested the right guy on Perry Mason.
