A friend and I are going to be spearing some lakes in Alabama in August and were wondering if anyone could tell us the usual conditions of Smith Lake and Lake Tuscaloosa. How is the visibility and temps and is the spear fishing any good in these lakes?

Thanks.

Check with Alabama DNR... some places don't allow spear fishing and you will have to get a fishing license of course.

You can spear Catfish, Gar, & Carp.........definitely no game fish. Ive been in Smith lake and its cold and deep. I have found a few spots that offer decent vis depending on the boat traffic. High rock walls on opposing sides of the lake are the best spots for diving I have found. As mentioned before, You will need a freshwater fishing license along with a spearfishing license.
