I'm a Fish!
The North Shore Frogmen's Club announce their guest speakers for this month August 14th, "Raising the USS Squalus" By Paul Harling and Jack Munro. On May 23 rd 1939, the USS Squalus suffered a catastrophic failure during a test run off New Hampshire's Isle of Shoals, sinking to a depth of 240 FT. Navy divers responded and began the dangerous rescue operations for the 32 crew members and one civilian trapped on board. Paul and Jack will illustrate these heroic efforts through video, photographs, models, and artifacts. They will also tell related stories of their own experiences of diving submarine wrecks and Heliox diving. Mr. Munro is an ex-Navy hard hat diver and still dives commercially for the town of Rockport, Mr Harling is the founder and curator of The Diving Locker Museum located on harbor loop in Gloucester, both have over 40 years experience as divers, Harling is also noted for multiple trips to the wreck of the Andrea Doria in the very early 1960's. The club dives weekly, year round, and is open to scuba certified adults ages 21+. Meetings are held weekly at 8 PM at The Beverly Golf and Tennis Club 134 McKay St in Beverly, for more information go to Northshore Frogmen
