Those zoanthids are known only from Catalina (Ship Rock is a great site for them). As far as I know they still haven't been described scientifically so they have no "real" name.

For a site with as much traffic as it gets, the dive park is a pretty amazing place.

There were carpets of those zoanthids 2-3' wide in places at Ship Rock. I figured they were common. That had to be my favorite site from my trip, second only to the dive park !!


PS, I kept looking for you at the park, but I pretty much had the park to myself except for all the Dam# cruise ships snorkelers !! Two ships in the harbor one day and all the tourons were lined up 10-20 people deep on both sides of the steps to get in the water !!
