Just an update for anyone interested is doing something like this,
The board is nice to be able to zip tie any computer on, my Cochran died so I can just zip tie my Dive rite on,

Also I normally carry 2 cordless Goodman style lights, but sometimes I want to leave them behind, especially if diving my vintage gear, etc, this way I still have a fairly capable light with me, plus it doubles as a spare battery for the shearwater.

What happens when that arm gets bitten off by a megalodon?? Where is your redundancy?? I put one on each arm for this reason.
 
2017 thread, but I can put this to use. I was planning on building something similar.

You can easily DIY this type of slate using McMaster-Carr PVC electric conduit covers, they come at different sizes and easily cut and drilled where needed:
