My sister and I stayed in the Jules Verne Under Water Hotel back in '96. An experiance I will never forget! We lucked out as it was just the two of us in the habitat (you can land up sharing if they are double booked).
The hotel is situated in an enclosed lagoon at 25-30 ft and you do it for the experiance rather than the fish/reef life. They have a few interesting areas in the lagoon (a dive bell and underwater lab) that they use for students.
My sister at the time did not have any certification so she did the resort course and got the fancy certificate. (I just landed up with the bill!;-0) Needless to say she went on to get her certification and is now an AOW.
It is expensive, even back then it was $250 per person per night but IMHO well worth every penny. The Hotel is kitted out will pretty much every modern convenience you can imagine in the living area there is a TV, Video, CD, Microwave & Fridge. The sleeping area is separated into two areas by a concertina door that can be closed for privacy. Each "room" will sleep 3 in a double bed with a single bunk configuration. The rooms also have their own tv, video and fridge so you don't have to socialise if you don't want to.
Given the close confines of the Hotel I wouldn't recommend it for a honeymoon couple who have to share  but would recommend it for anyone else.
You are left to your own devices at night and it is up to you if you want to do a couple of night dives. Our host, a chap called Mike, suggested that if we wanted to skinny dip, we cover the camera in the moon pool area so as not to excite their surface watcher too much:D. (They monitor the moon pool so that there are no nasty accidents). They have emergency phones up to the surface and also a normal phone that we got a kick out of using to call our folks out in South Africa.
All in all we had a fantastic time. Mike made our trip as he was knowledgeble, funny and aimed to please. In fact we liked him so much that we extended our stay for an extra week, found a cheaper hotel and my sister did her OW certificate with him.
I do have some photo's and brochures lurking around somewhere, if you guys are interested but their website does give you a great idea of the living area.
And for those of you that do go, here's a tip:
Watch out for the Piranhas. They are cunningly disguised as Sergeant Majors but their true colours come out when you sit on the top of the hotel (aprox 15ft deep) and waft a piece of bread around! Talk about feeding frenzy! :devilish:

A good friend of mine will be teaching there the whole month of February 2002.
He was also the instuctor that did the certifications for my 13 and 17 year olds this summer.
He will be broadcasting to schools from there.
You can email him directly for more into.

PS to monitors this thread should be moved to " North America" under Travel.

I disagree. It was a general question, the answer is in North America.

Thank you all for the info. I think I'll give it a shot. IF nothing more it could be something to talk about. By the way my students thought that I was crazy when I told then about an underwater hotel! They thought that I went off the deep end! THank you all again.
