I have the inflatable Mako float and use it in rough Hawaiian water. I've been using a fairly heavy line but want to switch to something with a reel as I often take the float with me on the dive rather than leaving it tied off. Is the line on the basic Mako utility reel sturdy enough to secure a float in wind and swell?

Yep! I use the Mako system for drift diving a 3 kt current routinely for years. Perfect for your needs.

Keep in mind, the design of the float lessens the pull compared to a inner-tire float. It cuts the water lessening the load. That is why I really prefer the Mako float.
