April 17 One boat out today and only the captain saw a whale shark on surface. Captain Jimmy has been on these waters for over 40 years, growing up learning fishing from his father. He says fish finder is showing the snapper to be very deep and he thinks they are not yet spawning. Lets hope they get in on soon!

April 18 Two boats out today and no whale sharks sighted. Dive Masters report that snapper are very deep - can barely see them from 70 feet. This is not the normal pattern.

April 18 After reflecting on our boat captain's report for our South Water Cayes trip today where he said he could clearly see the divers at 60 feet - great visibility and reflecting on guest's comments on the whale shark tour where they reported the visibility as being down it is likely that the spawn has started at Gladden Spit and that is the reason for the lowered visibility. That does not explain why the snapper are so deep.

The South Water Caye trip was the winner today - a pod of 15 or more dauphins playing around our dive boat and riding the bow wave, a flight of 6 eagle rays and two turtles involved with each other.

Dauphins? I don't think I've ever seen a single royal frenchman in the waters of Belize, much less 15 of them. :p

April 20 and 21 No whale sharks sighted. Patty's father passed away so we are in Honduras so not able to provide much info about snapper or other sea life sighted.

The 21st was our last whale shark tour for April. This was a rather disappointing April but not the first year that whale sharks did not show up in numbers. SEA used to keep statistics using sightings from the researchers (so as to not have several dive shops report the same sighting) and we have had bad seasons before as well as some great seasons.
We have high hopes for May and June.
