Just offering another way of doing it that works for me, may not for everyone. I've not had an issue with reel coming loose since doing it this way, it is good peace of mind, but tradeoff is maybe more task loading depending on the situation.

I use the setup with thick gloves and don't find it too bad. Was using a plastic ball on the loop as a grab to remove the spools from gold lines, dsmb, etc. I replaced the ball with some tubing (plastic, stiff enough not to bend too easy but pliable enough not to be brittle). If it seems clumsy just make the tube a little longer, it really doesn't get in the way.

My approach is sort of homemade and obviously won't comply with any of the dir/gue type standards, but it has been good for me and figure someone might find a use for it.
Was wearing 5mm gloves have used 7mm.
