A friend of mine told me about the murder of a well known sea turtle over on Oahu. It doesn't make sense. What is wrong with people??

Honey Girl was estimated to be 30 years old. She was tagged and had been observed frequently in the area of Laniakea Beach on Oahu's North Shore.

Here's a few links to the story. There's at least a $1,200 reward being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perp.

Watch the news video footage and get ready to break out the kleenex! Warning: All you turtle lovers will find this very distressing. The news video is particularly heart wrenching. Watch what another turtle did after the memorial was made! Amazing!

I love the Honu's here on Maui. Here's a little video if you need your 'fix':

This really pissed me off. The paper said she was killed for food. Who kills honu for food these days?

Wife and I spent too many hours hand feeding limu to a couple honu and loving diving with them to dwell on this..........

If it WAS for food, I wouldn't have minded if they took the entire turtle and used all of it for food. But to kill it and just take a small amount and leave most of it, is a true waste of life. I am not against hunting, I just don't want to see it happen in front of me, and I want the hunters to be responsible and frugal by 1)not causing undo suffering to the animal 2)using everything the animal provides. This is not the case here.

I'm truly sadden by this.

The person or persons that killed the turtle are probably the same kind of people that kill pet dogs for food, another occurance that happens on Oahu.

You know, I noticed in Palau that a lot of the haole diver Instructor, DM's, wear turtle shell bracelets and though that odd.
