This thread is up with plenty of advance notice this year to allow people that want to stay for the whole weekend plenty of time to make plans and take advantage of the weekend package deal we have with the Seaport Village Inn. (Details below. Mention ScubaBoard to get the special package.)

I'll update the first 2 posts as a running synopsis of this thread.

When: Saturday, July 14th
Where: Avalon Underwater Dive Park at Casino Point, Catalina Island

For a complete list of all of the Wrinkles dives for the 2007 calendar year, see this thread:

What is the Wrinkles Dive?

This is a monthly gathering of all divers and non-divers in SoCal who can make it. It's a lot of fun involving diving, eating, socializing and sometimes even camping!

It all started when our SoCal member, Wrinkles, mentioned to a group that she dove with that it would be really fun to be able to get together at least once a month. Pasley, took off with the idea and announced the first "Wrinkles Dive". The rest is history!

It's open to everyone of all skill levels from "I'm not certified yet" to "Do we really have to dive the Andrea Doria again?"

We've found this to be a great way to meet our fellow divers locally and many new dive buddies have been found though these "dive soirees".

NEW!!! Special Weekend Package for ScubaBoard through the Seaport Village Inn:

While many people will get up early on Saturday morning to catch an early boat to Catalina and then take a late boat out at the end of the day, some of us will be spending the whole weekend on Catalina Island.

I have arranged for an excellent package for the whole weekend though Seaport Village Inn. I believe that this is a better value than staying at the Hermosa for $35 per night and paying for things in this package separately. Here is what this package includes:

  • Rountrip Transportion to Catalina on the Catalina Express
  • Shuttle on Arrival and Departure
  • Accomodations on Friday and Saturday night
  • Hot Breakfast each morning
  • Champagne on evening of arrival
  • Shuttle to and from the flag pole at Casino Point
  • A place to rinse our gear at the end of the day
  • Complementary baggage storage for the day of departure

The Seaport Village Inn will book the Catalina Express for you when you make your reservation.

If you ask for it, couples will get ocean view rooms as long as they are available.

This is all based on singles sharing rooms. This means either 4 people share an apartment suite with full kitchen (2 queen, 2 twin roll-away beds), or 2 people share a premium room (queen and twin roll-away beds). Rooming will be arranged by the hotel at random or you can call in and let them know the names of those people who will be sharing a room.

Cancellation Policy
  • Cancel within 2 days - no refund
  • Cancel within 7 days - 50% refund
  • Cancel with more than 7 days notice - $50 processing fee

Package Price = $150 per person
based on double occupancy (you need 2 people in a room)

You must mention ScubaBoard to get this special price!

I just want to point out that this will be a great opportunity to get out and support the businesses on Catalina Island during our Wrinkles Dive.

This is high season for Catalina, so we have to have our reservations in by the week after Memorial Day Weekend to get the deal at The Seaport Village Inn for only $150 for the whole weekend. We will be paying full price after Friday, June 1st.

So, call the Seaport Village and make your reservations for July.

Heck of a deal Christian, apparently you told the other 2 AZ divers about this on Saturday, on Sunday at breakfast they were telling myself and a couple other Catalina ferry regulars and we honestly thought they must have misunderstood you, I think we convinced them they misunderstood you :D. Low and behold they were right. Love to go if I can, but as usual I will be out the weekend before, which always seems to be the case with me and buddies going to the dive park.

Thanks, Christian, for the suggestion that this is a good opportunity to help out our little community. We just said goodbye to the last large group of firefighters. What an incredible job they did saving the town and preventing any personal injury or significant structural damage in the interior portions of the island affected by the fire.

Coming into Avalon, most people will not notice much different... until they look up at the ridgelines and slopes ringing the edge of the north and west parts of town. Pretty much nothing but charred chaparral or coastal sage scrub... but plenty of potash fertilizer waiting for the (hopefully) gentle rains this winter.

I will go, but I need someone to go with! My dive buddy is leaving this weekend to spend 49 days backpacking thru Europe with his girlfriend.

So anyone want to share a room with a 34 year old single male?

Mike,

If you call the Seaport Village Inn, part of what they do is match people up in rooms. That way you don't have to worry about it.

You'll have plenty of people to dive with from our group once you are there.

Let us know when you are confirmed and I'll put your name on the list in the first post of the thread.

Yeah, it's definitely a killer deal for mid summer!

In March and November they give us even a better deal!

I think I mentioned the Winter rate to the guys from AZ, but I send Gilad a PM with a link to this thread and told him that it's about $35 more than I had mentioned for the whole weekend.

Hi Christian,
Just thought I would let you know that the prices are incorrect for the Express-unless these are special prices specifically for this deal. Don't forget about parking. :)

My husband and I have never dove with you all yet. We are going to try to be there. This deal can't be beat!

You're right on both counts!

When I typed all of this up in January, the new fares for the summer where not yet published on their web site and I forgot to update them. That's count one.

Also the times may be inaccurate. I'll have to get over to the Catalina Express web site over the next couple of days and get the correct schedule and pricing.

Off the top of my head, I think I remember the parking in San Pedro to be $10 per day and the parking in Long Beach to be $12 per day.

The deal is great and that's count 2!

I look forward to meeting you and your husband on this trip.

By the way, if you speak to Raul when you call the Seaport Village Inn and mention you're a couple, he may give you a room with an ocean view if they are still available.

Thanks for catching the pricing update or lack thereof. :D
