I'm assuming that the options for diving the Cove or Marine Room are as follows:

La Jolla Cove: Parking, especially now that it's getting warm, will be nonexistent. So either get there EARLY, or have someone drop you off and pick you up when you're done.

Marine Room: As I recall, it's maybe 1/4 mile (maybe less) from Kellogg Park to the Marine Room, so hiking it in gear is pretty much out. I also recall parking there is pretty limited. So again it sounds like it's a drop-off/pick-up situation.

Maybe some of us who want to dive either of these sites can get together and have someone take us over there.

San Diego guys, is that about right?

Yeah, that about sums it up. The drop off, for the divers, is going to be the best option. Here's the rub. Depending on HOW nice it is, the drop off vehicle may be pressed to find a parking space when they get back. I know at least two other dive clubs are having events on that Saturday. Lots of divers+lots of gear=lots of vehicles=few parking spaces.

That said, it may rain in which case there will be plenty o parking.

What I would suggest is if you would like to dive Marine Room or the Cove, do it early and then come to the main lot or come to the main spot, drop what ya can and have somebody run ya up there asap. The earlier you get back the more likely a parking spot will be available.

Thoughts?

As far as tanks go, I am bringing the twin72's and two 100's and maybe an AL80.

Thanks Sean. That is helpful.

If someone would be willing to use their truck to take the tanks back and forth, I'm sure we could compensate them for their gas (both in the truck and in their tank).

If we each had 2 tanks at The Shores, we could stagger our dives a bit and take the tanks to him 10 - 20 at a time approximately every hour or two. While he fills one tank we could dive on the other and keep rotating through the day that way. If you do a 60 min. dive and take a 2 hr. Surface interval between dives, it would give him plenty of time to fill tanks and give someone more than enough time to do as many dives as they want. I figure with 2 fill whips at 10 min per tank he can probably fill 20 tanks every 2 hours, which should work out well.

Would anyone like to step up to do this? If I had a truck, I'd be glad to, but It would be tough to fit 10 tanks into my Nissan Maxima. :11:

If Josh is willing to let me or someone he knows drive the truck for his shop, this would also be a way to do this. Although it's been a while, I used to drive 40+ foot trucks for a living taking freight back and forth between San Pedro to LAX, so I know how to drive with heavy loads. (This was before my life as a computer geek!) Sean, could you ask him how he feels about this?

Thanks again.

Christian

Christian, I don't think Josh would lend out his truck. You can call him and ask at 619-221-9001. He's a very nice guy, but that may be stretching things :) He said we could call him up Saturday and see if he could have someone pickup and deliver, but it sounded like he wasn't very interested since he's usually very busy on the weekends.
I believe the best thing to do would be for someone with a truck to bring the tanks to divepro and get them filled and return them. Perhaps we could contract with a 3rd party in San Diego to pickup and deliver them. You didn't say how much you were willing to pay for pickup and delivery. Let me know what the budget is and I can try to find something in the pennysaver to transport the tanks....

Sorry if you were waiting for my reply!

Hey Sean,

I figured that you had simply missed my post.

I don't really know Josh, so that call coming from me would probably sound a bit strange.

Contracting with a 3rd party sounds too complicated. By finding people in the Pennysaver, we'd have no idea who they were and I'd hate to see anything go wrong with that. I just wouldn't feel good about trusting a non-diver who we don't know with that responsibility.

I think I'd rather call Josh that day to see if he could accomodate us by picking up the tanks and if not, we simply take the tanks to OEX, which is only a couple of blocks away. The other solution I see is that a ScubaBoard member who has a truck could take the tanks and we could all pay an extra $1 per fill to cover the cost of airfills and gasoline for the person who offers to do this.

Thanks for getting back to me on this.

The Wrinkles dive is a week from tomorrow! Yahoo!

It's time to sign up for those items that are not yet spoken for in the first post.

Some of you may want to split some of the items like the burgers or the hot dogs.

Many of you have mentioned to me in person that "you think" that you'll be there. Now is the time to add your name to the list, so that we have enough hot dogs and hamburgers. Not that this has ever even remotely been a problem. We always have more than we need.

In fact last time, once everyone was gone, there were still some bananas left, so I ate bananas 3 time a day for a week and a half! :11:

Also, I just replaced the tide predictions with the correct info, since I still had the predictions up for the wrong weekend. I believe that everything in the first post is now accurate. Let me know if you see something I missed.

I'll be away from my computer for most of the weekend, so I may not be able to update the first post as quickly as I'd like. So, please be patient as you post info that needs to go there.

Weather.com is predicting a Mostly Sunny day with only a 10% chance of precipitation and an "event conditions" score of 10 which is their best score meaning Very Good! At this point it looks like the best day of the week.

I look forward to seeing you all in La Jolla.

Thanks.

Christian

I will do the ketchup/mayo/mustard...........

:sad_2: Unfortunately the dive shop scheduled me & Seth/Stryker for a boat dive that day for our Nitrox class and we won't be able to make it to Wrinkles ...
Was looking forward to meeting everyone... Hope you guys have a good time... take some pics!

Hmmm, still a lot of stuff on that list with no owners? We are a week away guys........

Wish I could join you guys this month.... I'll be over in Catalina @ Casino Pt. doing the final phase of the Catalina Conservancy Divers - Research Diver program. Have a wonderful time and safe dives too. I'll hopefully catch you guys for June, when I get back from London. :D

Christian,

Put us down for a veggie tray and a dessert... :crafty:

Jennifer

I'll bring a big bag of Chips. I am doing a Scripps Canyon Dive at 7am and a 12pm Zodiac with the Dive Animals so I'll try to bring the chips by between dives. It should be a fun day with both BBQ's going on :)

See you there,

Sean
