Egypt sounds great. I,ve been picking brains left and right trying to come up with an idea for a dive trip.
I have only been diving for about a year.....36 dives.about half of which were here at home in Canada and the other half on a "liveaboard" in the Bahamas. The St.Lawrence seaway is gold mine of shipwrecks. I dive here in a 3 mill suit.
Anyway I am ready for something a little more exotic. I was hoping someone could tell me about The Red Sea.
More specifically: Where would one fly into? Where to stay and what to do.
Is say; two weeks enough time to dive and see some pyramids?
How far are the topside attractions from the diving?
Is it unrealistic to go there alone and expect to hook up with a dive buddy?
I plan to go in Oct. or Nov. But I am flexible. All this and,...well,yeah you guessed it!!!
I am on a budget! Any advice at all would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance. I love this Board!!!

The Red Sea includes several points of attraction. As it is your first time in Egypt, I highly recommend Sharm El Sheikh and Dahab.

You would fly to Sharm El Sheikh airport. Where to stay depends on the accommodation standard you want; all options available. You should also pay Dahab a visit. So diving should mainly include Ras Mohamed, Tiran, Thistlegorm, Dahab, and if you like a camel or desert dive safari. Two weeks are enough for some good diving and pyramids viewing.

Sinai (the area including Dahab and Sharm El Sheikh) is very interesting and you can do other activities than diving, like trekking and desert safaris. Cairo (where the pyramids and the Egyptian museum are) is 500 KM away from Sharm El Sheikh.

In case you want a dive buddy, PM me.

Egypt is an excellent place to go diving - in fact, I just took out a trip that included Brits, Americans and a Canadian, and they all had a blast.

To get a good deal, what you want to do is get a cheap flight into the UK and then book a package diving deal with a specialist dive tour operator (Like Longwood Holidays or Goldenjoy Dive). This will include your return flights from the UK, transfers, accom and a dive package. It will work out much, much cheaper than flying into Egypt direct from Canada. Also, you will fly straight into Sharm airport from the UK, a five hour trip, and avoid a transfer through Cairo.

Sharm has everything. Camel Bar and the Roof Bar are great hangouts for a night time, and you can get food at very reasonable prices. Day trips to the pyramids, etc, can all be organised from Sharm.

Yes these dive tour operators are great but the major drawback is that they don't offer personalized tailor packages, as far as I believe.

Thanks guys, I will check out those dive charters. It looks as if there,s some great deals already . The more I save , the longer I can stay. THANKS !!!!!!
