Has any dove the dry tortugas west of key west? How was it and what is the best time of the year to go there. And maby a good outfit to book with.
Thanks

there are only a few outfits that charter out there. Playmate out of Key West and Ultimate Getaway out of Ft Myers are the only ones that run there on any regular basis. The Spree moves over from Flower gardens some during the summer.

Best time to go? when the seas are flat. Hurricane seas can bring rough seas with storms. so can winter. Lobster season (outside the park) is a popular time also.

I've been there aboard the Playmate many times throughout the years. Captain Bob of the Playmate is hands-down the best captain to go spearfishing in the Tortugas with! However, I don't believe he generally books individual spots, but instead charters the entire boat, but he may make exceptions to that.

Dry Tortugas is great diving! I'm not trying to compare it to any exotic destinations, but for being on the coast of the U.S., it's great, weather you want to take pictures, get lobster or spear fish.

Anytime of the year is good to go, but if you are looking for calm seas and warm waters, I'd say, May to September.
